Obituary


Lawrence Davis Latiker, Sr. was born on April 24th, 1948 to the late Ora and Mary Lee (Wigley) Latiker in in Thomastown, MS. He departed from this life on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.


Lawrence accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Damascus M.B Church.


He received his formal education first at Barnes School, then J.G. Greer High School in Thomastown, where he was Senior Class President and graduated in 1967.


He later relocated to Gary, Indiana where he began a 30-plus year career at U.S. Steel, Gary Works.


Lawrence was united in Holy Matrimony with Alice J. (Wilder) Latiker on April 16th, 1977, just one day before Alice’s birthday, April 17th.They were married over 44 years.


Lawrence retired from U.S. Steel in 2001. Then he enjoyed watching Westerns and Boxing on TV, and he also adored playing his guitar.


He was preceded in death by parents, Ora and Mary Lee Latiker; 2 sons, Bradley Latiker and Thomas Latiker; 3 brothers, Willie Latiker, M.J. Latiker, and Ezell Latiker. He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Alice J. Latiker, Gary, IN; 1 daughter, Jannine (Clarence) Bess, Portage, IN; 2 sons, Lawrence D. Latiker, Jr., Merrillville, IN Brian Latiker, Gary, IN; 2 grandsons, Javon Dixon Bloomington, IN and Aiden Latiker, Houston, TX; 1 sister, Carolyn Stevens, Chicago, IL; 2 brothers, Ora Latiker, Jr. Gary, IN and Laplois Latiker, Jackson, MS; 12 nieces, 5 nephews, and a host of cousins, other family members and friends.
