The Life of Lawrence Ralph Lee Jr.


 


Lawrence Ralph Lee Jr., born on March 7, 1940, in Little Rock Arkansas to Lawrence, Sr. and Alma Rose Lee. He was the eldest son born with his infant, twin brother Lonnie. Lawrence Jr. accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethel African Episcopal Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. In his youth, Lawrence was educated in the Little Rock Public Schools attending Capitol Hill Elementary and Dunbar Junior High School.


 


In 1958, Lawrence moved to Gary, Indiana where he attended Tolleston High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California prior to the steel industry working. Lawrence worked various jobs and embarked on a long career until retirement as a certified crane operator at the United States Steel Corporation, Gary Works Division.  


 


After a full life, Lawrence peacefully departed on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlestine M. Lee, paternal grandparents, William T. and Hattie Boyd; Lawrence Lee Sr., Alma Green, Betty M. Lee and other siblings, Robert L. Talley, Matthew Lee, Jackye Burnett and Douglas Green.


 


He leaves to cherish his memories: son, Lawrence R. Lee, III; of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters: Myrtle Faye (Charles) Boone of Maricopa, Arizona; Laurene Spears of Texas; and one brother, Matthew (Sherry) of Ohio. Additionally, two brother-in-laws Otis Matthews of Gary, Indiana and Samuel Lee Matthews of Mississippi; three sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Matthews of Texas, Hazel Matthews of Colorado and Julia Matthews of Illinois; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family.


 


He will be forever remembered by a host of cousins, other caring relatives, neighbors and friends. Friends and family are also invited to share their memories of Lawrence Jr. during a private memorial service in Little Rock.
