Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

ROMANOWSKI, Lawrence – Of Flint, age 95, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at his residence.


Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI, Pastor Thomas Mattiuzzo officiating. 


Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 12 p.m. Friday until the time of the service.


Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Every Nation Assembly of God, 429 Nb Chavez Drive, Flint, MI 48503.


Lawrence was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 12, 1929, the son of the late Joseph and Ella (Grinus) Romanowski. On June 23, 1956, he married Joyce Powers. Lawrence proudly graduated from Bendle High School, Class of 1947 where he played football and many other sports. He proudly served in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War. Lawrence attended Flint Junior College. He was a member of Riverside Tabernacle where he taught Sunday School for 60 years and worked in the church tape library.  Lawrence was a past member along with his wife of the Executive Committee of the Republican Party. He enjoyed sailing on his kayak, watching Michigan football and basketball and especially loved watching his beloved Bendle High School Tigers and attended many football and basketball games well into his 90’s. Lawrence started his career working for Merchant Bank. He worked for many years as an insurance agent for Ohio National Life Insurance Company. After retiring, he worked for Country Grains Bread Company and became affectionally known as “The Bread Man”. 


Surviving are son, Scott Romanowski;


sister, Olga (David) Arceo;


brothers-in-law, David (Kathy) Powers and Sam Roelofs;


and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, brothers, Joseph (Betty) Romanowski Jr., Edward Romanowski and Alfred Romanowski; sisters, Ruth  (Larry) DuBois, Lilly (Paul)Schlinz, and Helen (Bert) Freeburg; sisters-in-law, Donna (Bob) Roth, Charlene (David) Linden and Susan Roelofs.

Uncle Larry and aunt Joyce and their son Scott were such a huge part of my life growing up. I can remember going to their house in flint with my mom and dad and laughing hysterically and oh how uncle Larry would continue to turn the tv up and aunt Joyce would get frustrated and we laughed like crazy. Scott and family, Since the deaths of my parents and sister, I have been reading the Flint obituaries with some regularity. I was sad to read of not only your father´s death, but also to learn of your mom´s death and Sue´s. I also remember fondly your grandmother and grandfather Powers, and oddly enough, was thinking about them just a few days ago.
