Adobe Creek Funeral Home - Petaluma Obituary

Lawrence Donald Sayre passed peacefully from this life at 5:46pm on December 21st 2010 in Petaluma with his son Mathew by his side following an unsuccessful recovery from a severe stroke suffered last spring. Lawrence was born in San Francisco on September 4th 1946 to Donald Ray and Marie Ingeborg Sayre. Serving in the Navy aboard the USS Nespelen in the middle 1960s, he returned to the Bay Area to pursue careers in various fields ranging from tow truck driving, to software production, and coaching youth sports. A lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers teams, he eventually discovered his true passion for baseball umpiring and in his later years of life, photography. Lawrence will be dearly missed for his humor, his friendly and outgoing nature, and his love of meaningful, passionate conversation. He is survived by his three grown sons Lawrence Stewart of Virginia Beach, Mathew David of Windsor/San Francisco, Andrew Steven of West Palm Beach, as well as his two grandsons Jack Isaac and Evan Daniel, also of Virginia Beach. We love you dad and we will miss you everyday. Lawrence will be fondly remembered at Adobe Creek Funeral Home in Petaluma, CA on January 7th at 3pm. 331 Lakeville St., Petaluma CA 94952.

Not sure what to say?

Dad, the intital sting of your passing has faded and all those who cared about you feel the void of your absence. I caught myself wanting to dial your phone number just the other day. You always were attracted to the mysteries of the universe and now you are privvy to the one that we all must once day face. I carry your name and memory with honor and the fond rememberance of a loving son. Here's to you being right, and about death not being the end but a wonderful new beginning. Love always...

Dad,I can't believe that its been over 2 months since you parted us. Not a day has passes without you in my mind and in my heart. Words cannot express how much I love you, and how hard it has been with you gone. You were more than my father, you were my best friend. I will always cherish the memories that we had as a family together. I hope and pray that I have the strength to make you proud of me and will never be complacent, even when that goal is accomplished. You will never be forgotten...

A beautiful summer day in 2001 with the family!

Larry's twinkling in his eyes when he laughed his hearty laugh will always be a part of my fond childhood memories. My thoughts and prayers are with his family for their loss, and with my cousins for the loss of their father--there really are no words to make it less painful. My heart goes out to you all. Larry's spirit and his charms continue in this world with us through his sons and our memories. Rest well, Larry. Hopefully you and my mom are swapping stories and sharing a good laugh...

Larry was a an awesome guy. Especially since he made my mom laugh so many times. They are both now laughing together in heaven.

I knew Larry for about 40 years and will remember the many good times we had together. My sincere condolences to his family.

My uncle Larry was such a great man... When I was young I remember that I use to hate it when he called me Michelin (his nickname for me). Now I would do anything to hear it 1 more time. He always had positive and insightful feedback for anyone needing advice. I will miss his jokes, his laugh, his passion for art, and just him as a person. I love you uncle Larry & I will maiss you with all my heart. You will always be remember you.

We remember Larry AKA "Uncle Ralph" as a kind hearted man who welcome all of our family members into his home and his heart. The last time I spoke with Larry this year at the VA Hospital, he spoke so fondly of Matt, Stew and Drew and he also shared how proud of a grandpa he was and showed us pictures of Jack and Evan. Thank you Larry for everthing you shared with us throughout the years. We pray that you rest in peace.

May you rest in peace Larry, we hope that you are with your parents and Mama Poly who loved you so much. I will always remember the good times. God bless you and take you into his arms.
