Lawrence Gentle White was born on June 11th, 1995 to Auria White and Gentle Thomas. Born at St. Margaret’s in Hammond, Indiana. Lawrence affectionately known as Jay-Jay (Jelly Junior). As the ‘baby’ of the family, Lawrence was loved and adored by his older siblings. Growing up, Lawrence had a love for animals, video games, Japanese culture, art, drawing and a unique skill of origami. One of Lawrence’s dream was to go to Japan to design video games. Lawrence was a graduate of Thea Bowman Leadership Academy in 2014 in Gary, Indiana. Lawrence briefly attended Purdue University Northwest and majored in Graphic Designs. Lawrence passed away on October 27th, 2025.
He was survived by his mother: Auria (Powell) White. Siblings. Sisters: Ciera (Thomas) Monday, Kiera White, Takita Thomas and Desiree Thomas. Brothers: Marlon Powell, Marcellus Powell and Gentle Thomas Jr. Uncles: Atreus Jr. Powell, Keith Powell and Joseph Thompson. Aunt: Francesca Cooper and Gwendolyn Thompson. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Proceeded in death by maternal grandparents Ruth and Atreus Powell, father: Gentle Thomas, Brother: Monte Powell, Aunts: Thomasina (Powell) Pugh and Ann M. Powell. Memorial service to be held on Friday, November 7th, 2025 at 11am at First A.M.E Church 2045 Massachusetts St., Gary, Indiana. Officiating Dr. Virgil Woods, Pastor.
