Lazaro Torres, age 82 of Las Cruces entered eternal life Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 21, 1930 in San Marcial, N.M. to Felix Sr. and Isaura Fajardo Torres. Lazaro served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired in 1973 after 20 years of service. After his military service he worked in Civil Service as a maintenance man, until his retirement in 1993. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved the outdoors, and enjoyed doing crafts and woodwork. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife and mother of his children, Norma J. McCrary Torres of the family home; one son, Larry L. Torres and wife Sheryl of Denver, Colo.; and daughter, Jeanette T. Torres of Las Cruces. Other survivors include seven sisters, Alice Sanchez, Julia Lewellen, Tonnie Trapp, Rosie Duran, Marcella Espinoza, Edna Alderete and Jennie Saiz, as well as one granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters, Janette Marie and Annette Susan Torres, and a son, James H. Torres. Visitation for Mr. Torres will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the evening service is scheduled for 7 p.m.. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Fort Bliss, Texas. Serving as casket bearers will be Larry L. Torres, Ronnie Duval, Santos, Richard, Lawrence and Michael Alderete. The Torres family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces. 527-2222.
