Not sure what to say?

Dear Catherine and Family, I was so sad to hear belatedly that Dr. Allen had passed away, because I would have been honored to drive down for his memorial service. He was not only my teacher at Samford, but also a steadfast source of encouragement in both my writing and my feeble attempts at historical research as a layperson across these many years. Both of you, in fact, have inspired me in countless ways to be an authentic Christian and never cease striving for excellence in all things. I...

Although I have never met Dr. Allen, I know that he was a faithful servant who loves the Lord and loves people, a respected and fruitful scholar, and a good role model in life to follow. He is with the Lord and I will meet him there.

He is a very respectable elder. When he visited Pingdu, China, where Miss lottie Moon was doing missionary work,he was respected by the majority of church members.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Catherine and your family. I loved being your neighbor many years ago. What a wonderful family!

While we were still moving in, Lee walked over and provided us with an index card neatly printed with information to help us get connected since we were new to Birmingham. Utilities, newspapers, radio stations with contact info. You can imagine the details- everything that we needed to get started. Then Catherine brought us a lovely vanilla petal cake. That was 20 years ago. We could not have picked a better place to live . He was a treasure.

Single Memorial Tree

I remember Dr. Allen from my years growing up at Ruhama Baptist in East Lake. Everyone looked up to him.

I send my condolences to Dr. Allen's family and friends.
