Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home & Crematory - Ardmore Obituary

Memorial services for Lee Roy Briscoe, 80, will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home with Mr. Sean McCallister officiating.

Lee Roy was born to Carl Ike and Eva Stafford Briscoe in San Antonio, Texas on March 6, 1943.  He was raised in San Antonio and was a graduate of South San High School, class of 1961.  He and former Carolyn Yvonne Tate were married in 1964.  Lee Roy later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Technology from South Eastern Oklahoma State University in Durant.

Lee Roy served four years in the United States Navy where he attended ET school at Treasure Island and was then sent to one of the largest Naval communications stations in Stockton, CA, which intercepted communications of the entire Pacific Fleet during the Vietnam war.

He learned at an early age the importance of a strong work ethic from his father who first introduced him to electronics.  In 1968, Lee Roy moved to Oklahoma and began a career for American Flyers heading up the radio shop and supervised the FAA repair station.  In 1979 he began working at Uniroyal Tire as a routine electrician, later becoming an engineer computer technician.  He retired from Uniroyal in 2000 and soon after began working for Valero Ardmore Refinery as an instrument technician.  He retired from Valero in 2017.

Lee Roy was an avid outdoorsman that loved fishing and hunting.  He had great respect for all wildlife and nature conservancy.  He and his beloved quail hunting dogs generally out walked any fellow quail hunter.  His main hobbies were collecting specialty knives and antique guns.  He was a long time member of the First Avenue Church of Christ.  One of the most memorable traits he had was his sense of humor with a little mischief involved.  We are sure many have  a story to tell.

Lee Roy is survived by his wife Carolyn of the home, daughter Kimberly McBride and husband Larry of Madill, OK; Leesa Thompson and husband Tommy of Argyle, TX; and Gus Peoples of Ardmore, OK; grandsons Joshua Jones and wife Gillian of Grand Junction, CO; Matthew Thompson of Ft. Worth, TX; and granddaughter, Ashley Thompson of Amsterdam; great granddaughter Rivka Jones of Grand Junction, CO; and great grandson Duke Jones of Anchorage, Alaska.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Martha Kay Strecker and his brother Carl Robert Briscoe.

Honorary bearers will be Valero employees.

Not sure what to say?

I was Lee Roy's first date. He was twelve and I was 13. It was a Junior High Dance. I have the picture. No one danced. The girls sat on the lip of the stage and the boys stood around looking awkward. We ran into each other at the 50th class reunion for Class of 61. I remember telling him that he finally grew into his ears. We had a good laugh.

Lee Roy was a great man! He thought the world of Gus. May you receive peace and comfort in the days ahead!

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Leroy made everyone´s job easier he was a very special individual we loved and respected him. May God bless his family.

I worked with Leroy at American Flyers. He always made every ones job go easier and made work enjoyable. His smile will be missed.

Carolyn and family, Bill thought a lot of Lee Roy and I'm sure he did for Bill also, because when I would see him, he would say, I need to go see Bill. Sorry William and I can't come to the service. I can't drive anymore and William was planning to come, but got sick last night. You have been and will continue to be in our prayers. I wont forget Lee Roys' smile

My condolences for your loss. I remember Lee Roy from when he worked at Uniroyal. Such a very sharp, nice and polite man. RIP, and thoughts and prayers for the family.
