Not sure what to say?

Lee was a groomsman in my wedding on the 21st of May, 1960 at Holy Rosary Church in Toledo. He was a good friend and a wonderful person. I shall remember him with fond memories. Lee took me sailing one time, and I ended up capsizing the boat. Even though we were both soaked, he laughed about it, but we never went sailing again.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

Chris, Cheryl, Matt, Kevin, and Jay - I am so very sorry for the loss of your dad. Lee showed you all the love of sailing and the water. So many good times were had with Lee at the helm. May you always remember the good times and hold them close to your heart. You have my deepest condolences.

Chris I am sorry to here about your dads passing.
He was a handsome man.
I have the love of sailing through you and your family.
I remember sailing on the Hunter with you and your dad.
May his soul rest in Peace

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family

I only met your father one time. It would have been in the mid fifties (I think) and he took a group of us young adolescence out unto lake Erie. It was fairly calm and we sat on the deck of his racing sail boat. He was so kind to do that and that made a one time lifetime impression on me.

I worked with Lee at The Blade. Lee was very out going and a very humble and friendly person. He always had a smile on his face. And he loved to talk about sailing. I was sad to hear of his passing. May he RIP

My sincere condolences to the Merkle family. I had the pleasure of being a fellow news videographer and working with Lee on hundreds of assignments over time. He always had a cheerful smile, kind word and mild disposition no matter what he was doing. We often shared talk over some coffee at 2 A.M. after covering some breaking news event. I enjoyed knowing Lee and I am certain he will be sorely missed and his memory loved. Chuck Krueger
