Lee William Thompson, age 55, of Portage, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 as the result of a car accident. He was born on April 21, 1961 in Gary, Indiana to Leland and Margaret Thompson. A lifelong area resident, Lee was a member of the Hobart Jaycees and the Portage Bible Church. He will always be remembered for his benevolent nature. As an intervention specialist, Lee dedicated his life to helping strangers recover from alcohol and drug addiction. He traveled all over the United States and surrounding countries to stage interventions.

He is survived by his father, Leland (Barbara) Thompson; daughter, Shauna (David) Crane; granddaughter, Bailey Crane; brother, John "Jack" (Bonnie) Horbovetz; sister, Lisa Thompson; nephews, Aaron (Kellie) Horbovetz, David (Amber) Horbovetz, Mike Horbovetz, Chris Horbovetz; niece, Candice Martinez; great nephews, Tino, Gage, John, Aiden, and Maddox; many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Thompson; brothers, Daniel Horbovetz, Robbie Thompson; sisters, Audrey Thompson and Cheryl Thompson.

A funeral service for Lee will take place Friday, July 1, 2016 at 10:00 am at Portage Bible Church, 2748 Willowdale Road, Portage, IN with visitation there from 9:00 am until the time of service. Pastor Ron Smith officiating. He will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
