Leighton Y. Poole
12 years ago on January 29, 2004 I met Lee and his Mother Barbara Clark and eventually the rest of Lee's wonderful Family.
I have been privileged to serve Lee, Harry and Barbara.
Lee accepted me as his friend right from the beginning. When I began helping him, Lee could not walk. I took him to UC Davis five days in a row for 2 hours for infusions of the property that protects the nerve sheath. After that, Lee walked every day.
The first 7 years I assisted Lee, working 24/6 =144 hours weekly so we did many things together. I took him to too many doctor and dentist visits to count. Only twice in 12 years did Lee refuse to go to an appointment. For the past 5 years I have spent 100 hours weekly caring for Lee and Barbara.
Lee's favorite things that he enjoyed was his dogs; Charley, Manny and Weangue Baby. He loved to go for rides to see the fishing holes, creeks, lakes, and canals where he caught fish on a daily basis as a boy and young man.
Lee loved his Family. The last several years he enjoyed every opportunity to help his mother transfer to her wheelchair, recliner, bed or anything that would help. He would take her drinks or whatever I had prepared and pick up her tray.
Lee enjoyed hearing his Mother read the Bible to him, which also thrilled her. Lee watched Bible pictures and religious programs on TV.
Lee loved his sisters and extended Family. He appreciated their outreach to him. They showed they loved him and he reciprocated as he was able.
He was a strong man, but yet gentle and amazingly tolerant of the physical maladies that he suffered.
Lee loved to watch Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith and other old TV shows.
He loved Sizzler, McDonald's, and the Spaghetti Factory!
One thing that always impressed me was Lee's compassion towards anyone that had a handicap or was being picked on. He hated the commercials showing animals that had been mistreated!
Lee helped me take donations to Elijah's Jar for the Homeless and enjoyed giving food, and or a few dollars to homeless people. In fact, 2 days after Lee died, I saw a Native American man with a sign asking for work. I told him I didn't have any work but asked him if he would like a burger? He said he sure would. I bought him Lee's favorite McDonald's meal; Double burger, fries and a chocolate shake. The man thanked me and said he was thrilled to have a chocolate milk shake! I told him I bought his meal in memorial of my friend that just died. Lee was also a Native American of the Cherokee Nation.
Lee will be missed by his Family and Friends.
