I was fortunate enough to have been Leland's student and then his colleague. He was a fine man in all ways.

Leland, you were the father-in-law I always wanted. If there'd been nothing more than a common love of trains and cycling, or the fact that I could talk to you about classical music, those things would've amounted to a whole lot by themselves. A man who finds beauty and meaning in both a locomotive and a concerto is a man after my own heart. But more important, there was the man himself. The one with the earnest yet amiable handshake. I have fond memories of working with Leland and Monica at Sacred Heart for several years before they retired. They were both wonderful colleagues and I miss them very much.
