Chambers Funeral Homes - Cleveland Obituary

LENORE D. GOODWIN (nee Davies), age 85, beloved wife of 62 years to James W.; loving mother of Elizabeth A. Goodwin (Adam Race) and the late Nora Ellen Goodwin; proud Granny of Victoria Chevalier (Gavin) and James Race; sister of Barbara Davies (deceased) and Kathleen Wright (Tom, deceased); aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and dear friend of many.

Lenore passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on January 8, 2024, surrounded by her family.  Lenore was born on December 1, 1938, to Thomas Davies and Lenore Hildebrand.  Lenore grew up on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from John Adams High School in 1957.

After graduating, Lenore was employed at American Steel & Wire, where she met the love of her life, Jim.  Their first date took place (appropriately) on St. Patrick’s Day, and they were married 7 months later, on October 28, 1961.  Lenore and Jim celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on October 28, 2023.

Lenore’s life with Jim was adventurous.  She helped establish and maintain 11 residences as the family moved from Ohio to Michigan, to California, and finally back to Ohio.  She attended college whenever and wherever possible, pursuing subjects such as geology and algebra.

Lenore later owned and operated the Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio at Southland Shopping Center in Middleburg Heights, Ohio for over 30 years.  She loved quilting, knitting, crocheting, painting, and other small projects.  Lenore also took part in bridge, bowling, and some golf with her friends.  Though she had many hobbies, her favorite place to be was in the kitchen.  She never followed a recipe without putting her own spin on it.

Lenore was a beautiful and authentic person, whose calming presence provided support and stability for her family and friends.  She handled her recent health struggles with dignity and courage.  Lenore leaves us with a legacy of kindness, patience, strength, and recipes (!) for generations to come.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, February 3, St. Joseph Church (12700 Pearl Rd. Strongsville, OH 44136) at 11:30 AM. Please join us for a celebration of her life at the home of Liz and Adam Race (11742 The Bluffs, Strongsville, OH 44136) immediately following the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Holy Family Hospice, 6707 State Rd., Parma, OH 44134.
