Leo A. Deininger

The loss of Leo, one of our greatest family friends, truly saddens me. Leo connected around the 1950s with my father, Perry, as they were both wildlife appreciators at rhe Shaker Lakes. A few years later, the two took a much remembered wildlife trip to Florida. Leo had always been eager to contribute to my own efforts be they birdwatching, hiking or writing. A more helpful and good-natured friend would be hard to find.

Leo's wry smile today is the same as it was when we were high school students at Cathedral Latin School in Cleveland...somewhat wry, knowing, wise. He was one of the bright guys that you wanted next to you at that algebra test, just in case you wanted a peak at the right answer. He was always quiet, unassuming, but you knew that his brain was always working, taking in the crazyiness and the wonder of those years. Peace be with you, Leo.

I had 9th grade Biology with Mr. deininger in 1964(?) at Collinwood High School. He was a great teacher and taught us way more the suggested curriculum. A good man. Rest well Sir Duane Elersich.

Ruth, so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved Leo. Was introduced to Leo and you by my sister, Louise McDonough. Always great conversations on many topics, especially on birding with Leo and John Nelson. Know he loved nature and The Cleveland Hiking Club. He will be missed by many.

Ruth, My sincere sympathy. I have great memories of Leo from our teaching days long ago at Collinwood. He was one of a kind.
