Leon was a special, special man. He was my teacher at Washington and again at SFSU. He was also my friend, and I fondly remember sailing out of Sausalito with him, among other wonderful memories. My condolences to his life partner and family. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Claudia (Aron Ross)

It was only by coincidence that his dad and my dad had boats parked next to each other in Kappas Marina there in Sausalito. My friends and I...

Mr. Cathey had a wonderful presence, always full of life in the classroom at George Washington High School in the 1960s. He transmitted a sense of depth and a bit of mystery, suggesting how much more there was to him than we could imagine! May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to his family.

One cannot over emphasize how much it means to a student who lives in a society that tries to devalue you as a human to have a teacher that says through actions that he cares and will go the extra mile to make you believe in yourself. I particularly benefited from his insistence on data and critical thinking. I am...

It was a pleasure to know Leon during my George Washington High School years 1972-1975. Leon was a loved teacher and will be sorely missed.
