REFLECTION OF LIFE


Mr. Leon Wilfred Grove Jr. was born October 5, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Mr. Leon Wilfred Grove Sr. and Mrs. Marion Shepard Grove. Leon exchanged this life for eternity on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.


Leon was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1958. A veteran, Leon served as a Marksman (Rifle M-14) in the 75th Artillery Unit during the Vietnam War. After returning home and being honorably discharged, Leon went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Alabama A&M University and later received his Master’s degree from the University of South Alabama.  Leon held positions as a Wall Street Banker trainee, Educator and Sports Coach.  Leon retired from Newark Public School System after 29 years of service.


 Leon is preceded in death by his brother, Johnny (Ethel) Grove; sister, Jacquelyn Brown and daughter, Tiffany Grove.


Leon is survived by his 7 children: Michael (Tangula) Grove of Chievres, Belgium, Craig (Antoinette) Grove of San Antonio, Texas, Bryant (Tanya) Grove of Jacksonville, Florida (Mother: Irene Grove), Chana Wilkerson of Baltimore, Maryland (Mother: Yvonne Wilkerson), Leon Grove III of Kenilworth, New Jersey, Kyle Grove of Newark, New Jersey (Mother: Joy Grove; Deceased) and Jason Grove of Newark, New Jersey(Mother: Veronica White); 4 siblings: Maxine (Perry) Graves of Media, Pennsylvania, Clifton (Emily) Grove Sr. of Detroit, Michigan, Ricky Grove of Mobile, Alabama and Taranga (Andre) Taylor.   Leon is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
