I will always remember Leon as a great and necessary leader of the times in Syracuse. My Dad thought a lot of him, as did the gang at Grace Episcopal Church. I will miss knowing he is back in Syracuse, as his friend Frank Wood.

I was Mr. Modeste's first administrative intern from the SU School of Social Work, working 15 hrs. weekly from Sept. 1982 till June 1983. He then asked me to run a summer youth employment program, as I was expecting my first child in mid-Sept. I remember him so well - he was very kind, thoughtful, bright, interesting to listen to as he shared stories about the photos on his office walls.
