Leon “Pete” Gilbert Shuart, 89, of Filion, passed away peacefully at his home. He was born on September 21, 1931, to the late Jack Shuart, and Edward and Edna Blanche (Gilbert) Mette.
Leon was enlisted in the Army and stationed in Alaska for 3 years during the Korean conflict. He spoke often of the kindness shown to the soldiers by the Salvation Army during his stay.
On October 8, 1958, he married Patricia Costello. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together.
Leon retired after 42 years from Buick in Flint. He was a member of the UAW Local 599.
Leon enjoyed cutting, splitting and stacking wood, tinkering on his 1954 Farmall tractor, taking road trips with his wife, going to car shows, riding a Harley, and spending as much time as possible with his family. One of his greatest achievements was being a member of AA and mentoring many people through his lifetime.
Leon is survived by his wife Patricia, his children Peter (Vanassa ) of Arizona, Paula (Robert ) Jackson, Flint, Patrick of Flint, Pamela Emmendorfer of Flint, and Phillip of Filion; his grandchildren, Susan (Adam) Fisher, Andrea (John) Mata, Andrew (Melissa ) Wilson, Ashley Shuart, Katy (Adam ) Belson, Brittany Emmendorfer, Tessa (Chris ) Pullen, Amanda (Tully ) Cocco, Brandon Shuart, Tyler Emmendorfer, and Robert Jackson; and 12 great grandchildren.
Leon enjoyed spending time with Will Hemingway, one of his closest friends.
Leon was preceded in death by his brother and sisters; Jack Dale Shuart, Donna MacElroy and Arla Faye McConnell.
Funeral Service for Leon will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe, with Father Robert Pare’ officiating.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 3 PM- 7 PM, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, and also from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday, at 12:00.
Per COVID restrictions, we ask that masks be worn, and social distancing is practiced.
