ALLEN, Mr. Leonard Burt, Sr.- age 83, formerly of Flint, MI passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in Bradenton, FL. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, September 8, 2014 with 10:00 am family hour at North Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1657 Broadway Blvd., Flint, MI 48506. Bishop James O. Flowers, Sr. officiating. Mr. Allen was a veteran of the U. S. Army and the final resting place will be Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Calling hours are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Serenity Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Leonard Burt Allen, Sr. is currently 83 years. He was born November 18, 1930 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. His parents were John Edward and Rosa (King) Allen Sr. He graduated in 1948 from Trenholm High School. At age 17, Leonard enlisted in the United States Army. He served from October 28, 1948 to July 16, 1952. During his service, he fought in the Korean War. Leonard became a Mason in 1955. He moved to Flint, Michigan and resided there for many years. He attended Mott Community College and GMI trade school where he learned the trade of body fender and welding. Leonard retired from General Motors in 1989 where he worked for 37 years as a Skilled Trade Welder. Throughout his life?s journey he also resided in Florida and Texas.
Some of his hobbies included traveling with his family, golfing, fishing, and listening to music. He loved the game of golf. He toured in many senior series golf tournaments and won many prizes. Leonard loved making people laugh. Often times he would make up his own songs and sing them out loud. He was a generous man and opened his home to many. He was a good father and grandfather.

Leonard had 1 brother, John Edward Allen, Jr. (deceased), 2 sisters, Jean Allen (deceased) and Winifred Chambers (deceased). He has 5 nieces, Gale, Claudette, Dane, Marion and Edna, 1 nephew, Michael. Leonard was married to Margaret (Neal) Allen in Flint, Michigan 1954-1974. They had 2 children, Leonard (Alicia) Allen, Jr. and Terri Allen. He had a close companion Frances Teer (deceased) and they had 1 child together, Serita (Kenneth) Allen-Jones. Leonard has 2 step-daughters, Cheryl (Greg) Williams-Magee and Diana Teer, 1 step-son, Robert (Kimberly) Teer, Jr. He has special friends including, Melvin Blair, Walt Saunders, Walt Worthy, Joe Brady, Jim Brady (deceased), Alton Yarbrough, Robert Teer, Sr., and Gail Edwards. Special relatives and families, Milton Armstrong, Linda Croff and family, Earl Robinson, The Fields family, The Armstrong family, The Yarbrough family, The Neal family, and The Houston family. Leonard has 6 grandsons, Leonard III, Columbus Jr., William Jr., Blake, Charles Jr., Demetris, and 1 granddaughter, Ariana. He has 2 great-grandsons, Austin (deceased), and Zavier, and 3 great-granddaughters, LeNiecia, A?mariyah, Alaya. He has 4 great-nieces, Tracy, Angel, Timeca, Tanisha, and 3 great-nephews, Aaron, Greg and Michael Jr. He has a host of great-great nieces and nephews.

I just heard of the passing of Mr. Allen. My prayers are with all of you. I remember all of the fun times we all had together when we were kids. Him & my dad (Joe Green) were good friends. Hate I didn't know earlier. Would have loved to see all of you!!!
