My father,85, was a Marine Raider, a SGT at one time, and Colonel Hicks his Commanding Officer. Guadalcanal, Saipan, Tinian, SingTow China, Korean War to name a few. Dad knew The Colonel well. My father, Keith Severson, was Grady's nephew. His mom, Mary Ola (Hicks) Severson was Grady's older sister. My father lives in Canby, OR with his wife Sue. He's 81. Grady came to my house in Charbonneau after the my grandmother's memorial service and I remember him to be very dashing and eloquent and kind. Our prayers to all the family at this time. If you want to contact our side of the family my email is [email protected]. Warm regards, Marcie Harris

From a Vietnam Marine, my condolences for your and the country's loss of another hero. When I next play "The Marine's Hymn" and "Amazing Grace" on my bagpipes, they'll be dedicated to the Colonel. Semper Fi!

I had the privilege of visiting Leonard weekly during the past year or so. In addition to his many accomplishments, he was also a man with great faith and a big heart. My condolences to all his family and friends.
