Loyal to Family and Teams

Leonard Ragaglia made a mean breakfast. Long ago, his 11 brothers and sisters were swapping chores for a meal of crispy bacon and eggs — sunny side up, with unbroken, dead-center yolks. Later, he fixed his special omelets for Donna, his wife; Anthony and Lennie, his sons; and the other firefighters at Engine Company 54 in Midtown Manhattan. They were vast, wobbly things with bacon, onions, cheese, potatoes and tomatoes, said Maureen Ragaglia, his mother.

His father, Leonard Sr., was a firefighter, and the younger Leonard, 36, had always planned to be one, too. He commuted from Staten Island, where he was surrounded by relatives. Like his siblings, he and his family were constantly in and out of his mother's house, where he would toss footballs and pitch whiffle balls to his sons and nephews and nieces.

"He was Mr. Mom," said Linda Taccetta, an older sister. "He wasn't just a father at work. He was with his sons all the time, took them to all their sports and watched pro games with them.

"He was faithful to the teams he liked," Mrs. Taccetta said. "The Mets. The Dallas Cowboys. The Islanders. I'd tell him, `You're true to the wrong teams.' Even when we were little, he was that way. He'd argue about who was better — King Kong or Godzilla. And he'd pick Godzilla."

Remember today

Today, 23 years later I walked for you. I am 23 years old as well and this was my 1st tower challenge and I walked beside and for you. You will never be forgotten, a true hero.

Lenny..23 years on, the names are still being read, tributes pour in and the pain and sorrow of those lost and those continuing to succumb to the effects of the tragedy of that day are acknowledged. We are still not safe from those that want to do us harm. It’s an ongoing battle but we stand strong and do our best to keep evil off our shores. I know where you are it’s peaceful and quiet and you’re much better off being at rest. I still reflect on our short time as friends and our “club”...

Remembered today.

Another tribute for you and all the others that ran in while others ran out. 22 years and not a day passes that 9/11 doesn’t cross my mind. Whether it be as I’m driving and the sun reflects off of my arm or walking into our firehouse and glancing at some memorabilia there, we never forget. I watched a special program last night about that day and the announcer said that not only did the day take so many FDNY firefighters, but that just as many that worked for months at Ground Zero have...

Lenny: Still thinking about you on this 22nd anniversary of the horrible day 09-11-2001! It doesn't get easier for sure but everyone is carrying on, ground zero is making a decent effort to memorialize the tragic event, people are paying their respects and as always, we will never forget those who perished and sacrificed to try to save the unfortunate people trapped in the towers. Continue to rest well buddy, until we meet again.

Remembered Today

Not forgotten - 20 years later - honored and respected

Lenny: Twenty years gone and still the pain and sorrow of that fateful day lingers and stings the soul. So many mixed emotions. We all still remember and I personally still recall our times together - having fun, no cares and making some extra $$$$ which was always handy and helped our families out. I'm not sure where we as a collective society are headed, just hoping for the best for everyone. Continue to rest in peace buddy, you'll never be forgotten and neither will the thousands of other...
