Not sure what to say?

Ironically, I had a dream about Leonard last night and I am happy that he came to me in my dream! He was singing and was smiling. I was his caretaker in Ann Arbor and will always remember him.

It was to work with Prof. Segel that Masaru took a year off work and went to Ann Arbor, where we met and later married. We had the great pleasure of meeting Leonard and Sylvia again in Japan. They were both wonderful people and we were lucky to know them. We have just today learned that they are gone. Please accept belated condolences. We have the loveliest memories of them, personally and professionally.

Many of you have read Leonard's obituary referring to him as “a leading specialist in the field of vehicle dynamics.” That is not just his children bragging; that is for real. Most of you came here by car today, some on the express way at 60 or 70 mph. All your cars behaved well at that speed without requiring undue attention on your part. You could glance over at your passenger for a moment without worrying that the car would head off unexpectedly. We've all come to expect this, but it could...

It has been my pleasure and privilege to meet Leonard Segel biennially from 1975 to 1995, in connection with the International Association for Vehicle System Dynamics, of which Leonard was President for several years. I also worked closely with Len in Ann Arbor during the academic year 1978-79, and saw him several times at other conferences, where he always made strong contributions. He was a giant of his subject and an inspiration to colleagues, with a great generosity of spirit. His...

Prof. Segal was a fantastic teacher who was passionate about automotive engineering and vehicle dynamics. He was charismatic and made the course material interesting. It was a great privilege to have been taught by such a renowned and brilliant man and gave me great pride to tell other engineers that he had been my professor.

My prayers are with Len and his family.

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to the entire Segal family. Len was special in so many ways. His significant contributions to improving safety of vehicles saved many lives and for that we are all grateful. He was a wonderful teacher and researcher.

Mr. Segal graced our house for one Passover Seder, and he made a tremendous impression on us and our daughter. What a gracious gentleman. I'm sure the family and friends will miss him greatly.

Mr. Segel was such a sweet man. I remember him from Assisted Living at Glacier Hills. My prayers are with all the family.

Leonard and Sylvia were longtime friends of ours, devoted to each other and courageous about their own long illnesses. Let us hope that they are now together.
