Leonard Jackson Walker

Mr. Leonard Jackson Walker, 79, of Charlie Crawley Rd., Morganton, went to his Heavenly Home, surrounded by his family ,on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, following a period of declining health. Leonard was born on February 9, 1939 in Burke County to the late Carl Wesley Walker and Mary Stroupe Walker. He was retired from the textile industry, was the owner and operator of a trailer park community and was a member of the Way of the Cross Church in Morganton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy C. Walker and wife Betty and brother in-laws, Rick Benfield and Don Whitley and a special step-son, Gary. He is survived by his wife, companion and best friend for 37 years, Louise Powell Walker of the home, step-children, Wanda, Terry, Donna, Jerry, Vickie and Mark, two sisters, Helen W. Whitley of Concord and Myrtle W. Braswell and husband Martin. Also surviving are a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, numerous friends, his loving dog, Maddie and special friend and pastor, Richard Ellington. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Richard Ellington officiating. Entombment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel of Memories. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese and at other times will be at the family residence, 4811 Charlie Crawley Rd., Morganton, NC.
