Leroy Joseph Lay, 80, of Burkburnett died Sunday, December 6, 2015.   The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls with Rev. Richard Kirkham, and Rev. Hoa Nguyen celebrants. Rite of Committal with full military honors will follow at Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.   Leroy was born on February 25, 1935 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to the late Arthur and Lillian (Quinlisk) Voorhees. Leroy served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, and was awarded a Bronze Star while serving there.  He was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Burkburnett, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as a District Deputy.  Leroy married the love of his life, Bettie, on December 23, 1955 in Grandfield, Oklahoma.   He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Bettie.   Leroy is survived by a son, Joe Lay and wife Denise of Mansfield, Texas; daughter, Cathy Lay of Little Rock, Arkansas; granddaughter, Brittany Hay and husband Charlie of Dallas; great-granddaughter, Harper Grace Hay; brother, Ronald Voorhees and wife Lucy of Houston; and sisters Darlene Voorhees, and Marie Burns of Fresno, California.   The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rosary and Vigil beginning at 7 p.m.   The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 600 Davey Drive, Burkburnett, Texas 76354, or Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310.
