Leroy Sturdivant

Leroy (Roy) Sturdivant, son of the late Rufus Sr. and Lena Mae Watson Sturdivant, was born August 17, 1946 in Chesterfield County, SC. He departed this life on November 22, 2018 at Wesley Long Hospital, Greensboro, NC.

At an early age, Leroy (Roy) accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Galilee A.M.E. Zion Church, Morven NC.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tarvin Sturdivant; father, Rufus Sturdivant, Sr.; mother, Lena Mae Watson Sturdivant; sister, Linda Jean Spencer; brothers, Rufus Lee Sturdivant, Jr., Otis Sturdivant, and Freddie Lee Sturdivant.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving wife of 49 years, Nannie Edwards Sturdivant; son, Christopher (Denoya) DeBerry; five grandchildren, Christopher, Kadijah, Caria, Crystal and Bianca; three sisters, Mary (Artis) Willoughby of Morven, NC; Sandra (Edward) Manigault of Greensboro, NC and Patricia Sturdivant (Ben) of Cheraw, SC; two brothers, Donnie (Virginia) Sturdivant of Greensboro, NC and Curtis Sturdivant (Katherine) of Wadesboro, NC two aunts, Mrs. Almetta Sturdivant of Morven, NC and Mrs. Mildred Howard of Charlotte, NC; five sisters-in-law, Mary Lillie Sturdivant of Wadesboro, NC; Carline Sturdivant of Charlotte, NC; Dolly McCormick of Wadesboro, NC; Cornellia Moore of Huntersville, NC; and Betty (Roger) Baldwin of Greensboro, NC; six brothers-in-law, Levander (Betty) Edwards; James (Helen) Edwards and William Gaston all of Albemarle, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro.  Visitation with the family begins at 11:30 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm.  Interment will follow at Proximity Mills Cemetery.
