Leslie L. Alexander

Leslie L. Alexander - a longtime resident of Pendleton, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 At St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. He was 73 years old. Viewing will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Wednesday, April 21st at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton. At his request a graveside funeral service will be held at 8:00 A.M. April 22nd in the Agency Cemetery, Pendleton. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Alexander was born May 21, 1936 in Pendleton. He was the son of Uriah and Lillian (Farrow) Alexander. He was raised and educated in Pendleton, and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1954. After high school he worked for a time for the Bureau of Indian Affairs before he entered the United States Marines Corps. He was discharged in 1962 as a Lance Corporal. After his discharge he lived in Warm Springs, Oregon where he worked scaling logs until about 1965. He then returned to Pendleton, where he began working for the BIA. He had worked at many jobs for the BIA including Forestry Technician, Heavy Equipment Operator, Log Scalar and Firefighter. He retired from the BIA in 1992. In 1998 He was acknowledged by the CTUR Athletic Hall of Fame for his baseball talents. He had also been acknowledged by the government for his 30 plus years of service. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors as well as gun collecting. He was also an accomplished artist. He was a member of the NRA and an honorary member of the Tribal Fire Department. He had acted as the Medicine Man for many of the past Happy Canyon Pageants. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. He is survived by his wife Loretta Alexander of Pendleton, two children; Shana Alexander and Craig Alexander, both of Pendleton, step-sons; Armand Minthorn of Pendleton, Kent Minthorn of Tennessee, and Phillip Cash Cash of Arizona, two brothers; Stan and Randy Alexander, both of Pendleton, two sisters; Marie Dick of Cayuse, and Barbara Guerrero of Pendleton, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.
