I feel like a blast from the past here. Leslie's store was always a destination when I was back in Chicago. His Inuit pieces were always top quality. I learned from him and considered him a friend. Sadly, I never got up to Lake Forest after he closed Oak Street. Regards, Ren Knopf

Leslie was the owner and my boss at The Alaska Shop on Oak Street back in the day. He once told me I was the best employee he ever had. He was a kind and funny man. Always a twinkle in his eye. I remember him coming into the shop half frozen from the wind, snow and sleet that come off the lakefront at the corner of Lakeshore drive and Michigan Avenue. Some days he looked like a snowman. We lost a lot of umbrellas. He taught me a lot about business and art. He had a contagious enthusiasm...

Dear Michelle, Rachel, and Doris,
I am so saddened to hear about The passing of Leslie. There will always be a special place in my heart for him.

I first met Les many years ago at his Lake Forest "Alaska Shop" - and he started me on a lifetime of Inuit Art. Over time I purchased a number of pieces from Les, helped him as an attorney, and always appreciated his sense of humor and his love of all things Inuit. After I moved to the City I would visit him in the Oak Street store whenever I was in the area. I always enjoyed his company. He will always be fondly remembered for his passionand love of art and life.

I was a classmate of Les' at Von Steuben and will always remember him as a very gentle, quiet and very nice person. May your memories of him bring you comfort as you mourn his loss.
