Leslie W. Rogers Jr., son of Leslie W. Rogers Sr. and Clora Beatrice Reed Rogers, beloved husband, Dad, Papa, Uncle, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, August 5, 2018, in Bradenton, FL. Les was loved and touched all with his unique wisdom, sense of humor, and compassion.
Born Feb 5, 1926, in Libertyville, IL, Les graduated Libertyville High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. While stationed at Harvard, NE, he met his first wife, Betty Turner, from Hastings, NE. Upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he earned his B.S. Degree and Masters Degree in Statistics from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Les enjoyed working in the Midwest, California, and Huntsville, Alabama where he met and married his current wife, Betty Holt Rogers, from Sarasota, FL. Les’ last Federal job was at the Redstone Arsenal with the U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Defense Systems Command. He then supported the Government for five years as a contractor with McDonnell Douglas. Upon full retirement, Les and Betty moved to Bradenton, FL where they loved to play golf at Tara Country Club. Les and Betty were Couples Golf Champions in 1993.
Les lived a long, happy, successful and satisfying life. He was a devout Christian who loved life, his family, Woodland Church fellowship and all friends. He loved playing bridge, bowling and tennis.
Les’ sister, Helen Cotton, and brother, Homer Rogers, are both deceased. Les is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons and their wives, Steve and Janet Rogers, and Mark and Darenda Rogers; stepdaughter, Susan Russ, and stepson Don Russ Jr; six grandchildren (Leslie Weinstein, Matt Rogers, Jason Rogers, Christopher Rogers, Donnie Russ III, and Diana Russ); and, one great grandchild, Charlotte Weinstein.
Les’ funeral service is Tues, 14 Aug, 11:00, at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
