Not sure what to say?

My first postdoc in 1980 was with Dr. Sperling (Les). I had previously taken a course in Polymer Science he taught jointly with Dr. Manson. As winemakers, we shared a second interest. I recall his embarrassment the day his father visited the lab and was effusive in his pride and praise. When he said how very proud he was of his son and his accomplishments, we all chimed in in unison, You should be.

Dr. Sperling was a fun guy. I am sorry for his passing, having just read the news in the Lehigh winter bulletins. I had the opportunity to have a polymer class with Dr Sperling, in 1975. He was a giver and stood out among all the great staff at Lehigh, as a man who cared about his students. He was very encouraging to me following a polymer lab where the objective was to make a simple latex paint composite in a beaker. I remember his bed side manner, that despite the unusable consistency...

I was a student of Dr. Sperling 20+ years ago and remember him as a kind and gentle person. May he rest in peace

Dr. Sperling was a great teacher, mentor and human beings. He was always ready to help his students, especially the international students. I still remember the course he taught and the interesting stories on an inland. He was always full of energy on works, researches and everything, including riding his bicycle uphill! It's really a sad news. I'll remember him in my whole life. May him rest in peace.

It is a very sad News!! Late Professor Sperling was my PhD committee member. I had the opportunity to meet him at IUPAC Gold Cost Australia in 1998 and ACS meeting in 2009 Salt Lake City. I am truly honored to buy a lunch for him and and tremulously appreciated. He was a great human being-a true mentor, and teacher. Last time, I met him was at EPI Liaison meeting and he honored me the opportunity to go in my car and then I was dropped him next to his car parked at lower campus then, I...

Dr. Sperling has had such a profound role in my life - you see I think of him every day - because I use his Physical Polymer Science book to teach my graduate course here at the University of Massachusetts. And there isn't a day that goes by that I don't consult his book to refresh my memory or use his problems sets as homework for my students.

I recall attending this class at Lehigh ~20 yrs ago at 7:50am in the morning and he was always chipper and armed with his little black...

I very much enjoyed spending time with Les as his caregiver. We talked a lot about the Catskill Mountains where he grew up as a young boy. He still enjoyed playing chess. His vineyard is amazing. He had many, many stories to tell me. He truly accomplished much in his lifetime. Blessed to have met Les and his family. Sadly missed. Diane

I remember Professor Sperling from my days in the Chemical Engineering Office at Lehigh. He was always a polite, quiet man and very respected. It always amazed me how he could ride his bicycle from his home in West Bethlehem to Lehigh, even though he wasn't a young man at the time. May God be with his family at this difficult time and may he rest in peace.
