Not sure what to say?

Alex was a co-worker and friend starting in 1977, when we worked on APL in Santa Teresa at IBM. We carpooled together, which was a delight! I was a new employee and he had lots of great stories, and, of course, enthusiasm. I hadn't talked with him for decades, and tried to reach out to tell him "Happy Birthday" today, to discover he had passed. My sincere condolences to Mary, the boys, and John. I heard so many childhood stories, and regret that I didn't get to hear his stories of...

Alex was a wonderful man and a good friend of mine at IBM. We met in 1974 when I started work with the APL group in Philadelphia and we collaborated on many subjects until I retired from IBM in 2002. I will always remember his smile and his enthusiasm. - Michael Wheatley

Alex led the Olin's blind sailing research program, which I was fortunate enough to have been a part of in 2018. Alex always shared his profound willingness and enthusiasm to help others. He brightened every room he entered and will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. My sincerest condolences to his family.

It is with great sadness that I learn of Alex's death. It was Alex who found interest in my vision of creating a better autonomous blind sailing system and the beginning of an exciting, challenging, new journey, as well as, a new friendship with fond memories which will last a life time for me. Alex also introduced me to the world of Olin College of Engineering and the exceptional students and faculty he got involved in the project. His contributions to the world of blind sailing and it's...

I will always remember Alex' warm smile and love and care he showed toward his family. My deepest sympathy.

I'm so very sorry that we've lost Alex. He used to stop in the Olin Registrar's Office and we'd talk about native plants and landscaping, Moby Dick, and many other things. He was a lovely man and I'll miss his visits very much. He always seemed genuinely happy to see me and to hear whatever it was I had to say. And the feeling was mutual.

Alex loved bringing together his students and blind sailors at Community Boating, to solve some very challenging problems. They worked on technology to allow blind sailors a high level of independence in the sailboat. He was always the consummate problem solver and collaborator. In every way he was a truly kind and loving person. Everyone who knew him at Community Boating counted him as a friend. He is deeply missed.
