Lewis M. Nealy

Lewis M. Nealy, 86, of Cotton Valley, Louisiana died Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Fountain View Care and Rehab Center. He was born November 17, 1922 in Shongaloo, Louisiana to the late Lonnie and Gracie (Pickett) Nealy and was also preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Sutton, sister, Ruthie Humphrey, and brothers, Madie and Dale Nealy. Lewis was a retired heavy equipment operator for International Paper and was a member of Unity Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1958 and taught the Men's Sunday school class for many years. He served as a Staff Sergeant for the United States Army Air Force during World War II, which he flew over 35 missions and was very proud of his service and felt that he was never owed for his military service. Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Sally Nealy of Cotton Valley, Louisiana; daughter, Nell McMichael of Haughton, Louisiana; son, Larry M. Nealy of Lake Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Rachel Young and husband Toby of Bossier City, Louisiana, Jennifer Huckabay and husband Brian of Daphne, Alabama, Brad Hanson and wife Amber of Benton, Louisiana; special granddaughter, Morgan Hanson of Cotton Valley, Louisiana; great grandchildren, Hailee Putman, Madison Young, Katherine Huckabay, and Jack Huckabay; brother, Dalton Nealy of Shongaloo, Louisiana; sisters, Ivy Teutsch and husband J. D. of Benton, Louisiana and Erma Coughman and husband Gordon of Haughton, Louisiana. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Unity Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Lintelman officiating. Burial will follow at Union Springs Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Springhill. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Debra Sutton. Pallbearers will be Toby Young, Jimmy Nealy, Jerry Davis, Steven Sutton, Gene Hanson, Thomas Rodgers, and alternate, Billy Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Unity Baptist Church. The family would like to give special thanks to W.J. Johnston for all the help and support he has given for a number of years.
