Andrews Mortuary and Crematory - Market Street Chapel - Wilmington Obituary

Lexi Rose Hooks passed away suddenly on Feb 24th, at the age of 12.

Lexi was loved.

Lexi was a high energy little girl, always on the go. She was always a leader, sometimes for good and often for mischief. She had a kind heart and great empathy for others' pain.

She loved all animals. She loved her animals, other peoples animals and pretty much any animal that had the misfortune of crossing her path. Many a turtle or lizard or even snake had to find its way back to freedom from Lexi’s “love”, often with the help of Lexi’s mom or dad. She had so much love to give to her animals. She loved riding her horse, General through the trails around her home. She loved exploring the woods with her german shepherd Rosie, who was only supposed to be a foster dog, but immediately made Lexi “her person”, so her family knew they were stuck with Rosie forever.

Lexi loved sports and dance. After a brief rec soccer career Lexi retired from soccer at 6 to focus on Dance and other sports like basketball and baseball. She really enjoyed baseball, well hitting at least, but needed more excitement and less downtime. So at age 10 she decided to come out of soccer retirement to try to specialize as a goalkeeper. She moved to Carolina Velocity soccer club this season and really developed a passion for the sport and her team. She loved her teammates and was often seen giggling around the house at something one of her teammates said on their group chat.

She was becoming a beautiful young woman with a limitless future. The old saying, it takes a village to raise a child, was absolutely applicable with Lexi. She communicated with and loved aunts and cousins, and grandparents and teammates and friends all over the country. Her laughter and fun loving personality will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her Father and Mother Chris and Tina Hooks. Her sister Cali Hooks, Her G-Dad, Walter Michael Hooks, Her Silverback and Grams, Dean Bradley Viertel and Mary Lou Viertel. Aunts and Uncles: The Great Aunt Cheryl and John Wilse, Dennis and Debbie Hooks, Patrick Hooks, Brett and Ashley Hooks, Denise and Kirk Wilson, Jackie and James Page, Catherine and Andrew Stasiowksi, Shannon and Jake McCarty, Donae Viertel, Troy and Janis Viertel, Dana and Carl Stevens, Chris and Cherise Atkinson, and Dean Viertel. As well as too many cousins to list.

Lexi was loved.

She was her G-Mom’s “Mini Me” and will be buried next to her in Wilmington, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2pm, Friday, March 5th, 2021, at Oleander Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Mar 6th in the Raleigh area where she lived. The service will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 151 Old Rock Springs Cemetery Rd, Pittsboro, NC 27312

There are no words to express the loss that you and your family are going through. What an amazing blessing Lexie was to you and anyone she came in contact with.

Lexi had great excitement looking forward to events. I remember her joy when meeting up with my family on vacation in Washington, DC. She anticipated the things were going to do together. We saw a movie in the Natural History Museum and I remember her smiles as she kept checking on us to see if we enjoyed the movie as much as she did. Out on the National Mall, we enjoyed her and Cali finding every tree they could climb. Her energy, her smiles, we loved that about her.
