My name is Lois Young Shafer. My parents (Rev Alfred and Signe Young) were good friends of your parents. Several times I visited your parents in Kensington after my parents died. They were absolutely delightful people. Your dad's marvelous, dry sense of humor always delighted me. Your mom, ever the lady, was gracious, lovely and intelligent. I am here in Mission Beach for the summer and was shocked when I happened upon Lilah's obit in yesterday's paper....

Dear Phyllis and family: Your mother was always very special to me and to my mother (Luella Maxwell) As sisters in P.E.O. and fellow opera lovers they shared a special bond and my Mom and I drove to many meetings with Lilah. At every meeting Lilah always was so beautiful, dressed "to the nines" and as sweet and soft-spoken as any "lady" I have ever met. When my Mom died in 2002 the compliment I most appreciated was this "She was a lady"...and I can say the same for your dear and loving...
