the Greenes and the Kernans arrived in New Haven the same year and shared over many years the pleasures and difficulties of a young family and the Yale faculty. It is difficult to think that Liliane's wit. learning, and quiet voice are no longer there. My condolences to her family and to our many mutual friends. Alvin Kernan, Princeton NJ

My memories of Liliane, her generosity, her warmth, her deep interest in others, reach back to 1965, when I first came to teach at Yale, and she and Tom were among the first and most supportive of the "natives" I met. She will always hold a special place in my affections. My sympathy to all the family.

My sincere condolences to Phiip and his family. I know your mother was much loved and will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with you.

Liliane was very dear to me; I knew her through the Center for Independent Study and the Yale French Department. We shared a very funny time together in Paris one time involving some very handsome firemen. She was brilliant, soulful, and a beautiful person in every way. I am deeply saddened by her passing and pray that she is in peace.
