the Greenes and the Kernans arrived in New Haven the same year and shared over many years the pleasures and difficulties of a young family and the Yale faculty. My memories of Liliane, her generosity, her warmth, her deep interest in others, reach back to 1965, when I first came to teach at Yale, and she and Tom were among the first and most supportive of the "natives" I met. She will always hold a special place in my affections. My sympathy to all the family.

Liliane was very dear to me; I knew her through the Center for Independent Study and the Yale French Department. We shared a very funny time together in Paris one time involving some very handsome firemen. She was brilliant, soulful, and a beautiful person in every way. I am deeply saddened by her passing and pray that she is in peace.
