LUCKETT, Lillian Selma Hodges, was overtaken by our great enemy death on Thursday, June 23, 2011 after a long battle with illness. She was preceded in death by her only son, Kevin Merwyn Luckett; and her husband, Woodrow Luckett. She was a vivacious, "by far neato" personality who "taught for 42 years in the Waynesboro Virginia Public Schools and lived to tell it." Burial services will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 1 p.m. at Ridgeview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Va. followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 427 Cattle Scales Road, Waynesboro, Va., where she was a long time active member of the congregation and on Saturday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 2801 Mechanicsville Turnpike. Arrangements by Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Online guest book at scottsfuneralhome.com.

Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Luckett was a very dear friend. Our talks were endless, and I miss her wisdom. A few years before her death, she gave me the gift of a lifetime. So unbelievable. She had saved all of my son's drawings & booklets (stories he had written & illustrated) while he was a student in her kindergarten class.
Mrs. Luckett had the fantastic gift of loving & praising all of the students whom she taught. Each child was precious to her, and she loved them dearly. What she brought to...

I loved Mrs. Luckett so much! She was such a "Mom" to me. I often thought of her and was go excited when I saw her about 20 years ago and she remembered me and told me she still had my picture hanging at her house! I will never forget you! So sad...Gina Taylor Humphries

You were one of the best school teachers ever!! I had you back in the 70's, and you could always put a smile on someone's face!! When you entered a room the whole class would light up!! You will be dearly missed!! Kim Beard Tillman

Not many people have the capacity to cheer up a whole gathering of people, but Mrs. Luckett had this gift. Because she cared so deeply for others and always wanted to spread good will, Mrs. Luckett touched a lot of lives in her 42 years of teaching. The children she taught, their parents, and the community will sorely miss the sparkling bright light she shined upon us. Her wit, humor, and intelligence could make you laugh.

Mrs. Luckett was my friend and mentor. I feel fortunate...

Lillian Luckett was an awesome individual and will be deeply missed. She was one of a kind and I have yet to meet or know anyone like her.

I offer sympathy and condolence to the family.

so sorry to hear of your loss ... she was my school teacher at rosenwald high school

Mrs. Luckett - what a fabulous and inspirational personality. Mrs. Luckett was my kindergarten teacher at Wayne Hills Elementary School. I had never met anyone that flamboyant! She grabbed my attention and I never forgot her! I think Mrs. Luckett was a major part of my inspiration for becoming an elementary teacher myself years later. Kind-hearted, gracious, energetic and big, BIG personality. UNFORGETTABLE! If you knocked on her door she would say, "Come in if your nose is clean!" :) ...

Mrs. Luckett was the kindergarten teacher for both of our children, Lora and Paxton. She was a disciplinarian who brought wit to her classroom so that the children learned to combine responsibility with good humor. What a good educational foundation she provided to our children and a whole lot of others! (Wayne and Betty Grant, Waynesboro, VA)

When I first moved to Waynesboro, Mrs.Luckett introduced herself while shopping. My son and I discovered she was a kindergarten teacher in the city. We were residence of the county at that time. However that did not stop Mrs. Luckett from sharing words of encouragement and accolades whenever she saw us. I truly wished my children could have had the privilege of starting their education journey under her tutelage. She was a dedicated and outstanding teacher and community leader. We were...
