Lillian Mattson

Lillian Mattson Lillian Mattson (nee Koski), 87, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in Hoffman Estates. A native of Biwabik, Minn., Lillian was born on July 21, 1920, to the late Andrew and Mary Koski. She spent her early years there graduating from Biwabik High School in 1938. She moved to Soudan, Minn. to work, and on the first day of work met Arvo Mattson. In 1940, they were married and resided in Soudan throughout their entire married life. Arvo passed away in October 1989. Lillian and Arvo had two children, Sharon Mattson of Huntley and Robert (Donna) Mattson of Hoffman Estates. Other survivors include a granddaughter, Jennifer (Robert) Martino; great-grandchildren, Madison and Delaney Martino; as well as her sister, Irene Sherek of Biwabik; and sister-in-law, Lois Mattson of Hibbing, Minn. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, who celebrated her in life and will mourn her in death. Lillian and Arvo loved being at their Lake Vermillion island, fishing, taking sauna and entertaining friends and family. During her life, she enjoyed the camaraderie of friends in various coffee places around Tower and Soudan, and later here in Illinois, where she moved in 2000 to be close to her children. Lillian Mattson was a devoted wife and mother, and whose Lutheran faith was essential to her very being. Services will be held in Soudan. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Family Centered Hospice of Illinois, Greater Illinois Chapter, 2171 Executive Drive, Addison, IL 60101.
