Lillie Mae Dugas Bartlett
Lillie Bartlett passed away on January 15, 2015, Tioga Community Care Center at the age of 88. Visitation will be Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 600 Lakeview Street, Pineville, Louisiana from 12:00-2:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow with Father Bruce Miller officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Matt Bartlett, Grant Bartlett, Christian Bartlett, Steve Bartlett, Randy Bartlett, Chuck McCullin, Don McPeters and Jim Johnson.
Born to D.P. & Marie Arnica Dore Dugas in Broussard, Louisiana on June 3, 1926, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Malcolm Bartlett, her son, James Mark Bartlett, her parents, and four brothers, Roy Dugas, Alton Dugas, Sandy Dugas and Louis Dugas.
She is survived by her son John Michael "Mike" Bartlett and his wife, Connie of Pineville, and daughter, Janet "Jan" Bartlett Rodriquez and her husband Rufus of Carrollton, Texas and daughter-in-law Donna Bartlett of Dallas, Texas.
Also surviving are three grandsons, Matthew Christian Bartlett of Lafayette, Grant Christopher Bartlett and wife Becky of Alexandria, Michael Ryan Bartlett of Allen, Texas and two granddaughters, Shannon Malia Bartlett Jenkins, and her husband Zack of Fort Worth, Texas and Melissa Courtney Bartlett Bouillon and husband Brian of Benton.
She has seven great-grandchildren: Evan Michael Garrett, Christian Dominic Bartlett, Eliana Kathryn Bartlett, Patricia Elaine "Lainey" Bouillon, Peyton Alexis "Lexy" Bouillon, Anna Kate Bartlett and Emily Jane Bartlett.
She is also survived by her brother, Roland Dugas of Amarillo, Texas and sister, Hazel Villanueva of Plano, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Lillie knew her as an unparalleled cook. She loved to share her skills with those who enjoyed eating. Whether it be Sunday lunch, family reunions or holidays, or a "bake sale" for her beloved Catholic Daughters Chapter at Sacred Heart Church, she could always be found in the kitchen. If you tried to help her, you were simply shooed away. That was her domain, and she was the Queen.
She was equally respected for her faith. As her family will attest, anyone who doubts the existence of God has never seen her pray. A lifelong and devoted Catholic, her prayers and petitions on behalf of those she loved are legendary.
She retired from the Rapides Parish School Board with 28+ years of service. For over 57 years, she was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she taught CCD classes for 14 years. She was also a member of Pilot Club of Alexandria for a number of years, and served as its president on three different occasions. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Court Bishop #2072 for 14 years, and served as its treasurer from 1992 to 2004. As an Auxiliary member at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, she worked in the gift shop for over 20+ years and volunteered over 2,500 hours during that time.
The epitome of grace and graciousness, she leaves behind a legacy of both for all who were blessed to know her. She was a truly loving person, always willing to lend a hand.
Her pride and joy, though, were her children, and children and great-grandchildren. She loved them fiercely and made sure that they didn't want for anything, especially food and spiritual guidance. She was also an avid LSU football fan and on fall afternoons and evenings could be heard rooting her beloved Tigers to victory.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of your choice.
Ainsi soit-il, (So be it) "Miss" Lillie.
