Mrs. Lily “Melvin” Smith Jarvis, age 99, a resident of Aurora, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, July 7, 2023, at Christ Vision Church, Blounts Creek, conducted by Pastor Ray Webb. A burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Greg Bergman, Sam Mason, Leroy Mason, Harvey Mason, Mychael Mason, and Ian Donald.
Mrs. Jarvis was born in Black Jack in Pitt County on September 27, 1923. She was the daughter of the late William Columbus Smith and Helen Octavia Stocks Smith. Mrs. Jarvis was a graduate of Belvoir Falkland High School. She was a telephone operator with Chesapeake and Potomac Phone Companies. Mrs. Jarvis retired in 1975.
On April 2, 1948, she married Carl Maxton Jarvis, Sr. who preceded her in death, October 28, 1986.
Mrs. Jarvis is survived by her daughter, Brenda J. Linton of Boca Raton, FL; three grandchildren, Lorinda Mason, Kim Bergman, Rachel King; five great grandchildren, Ashley King, Mia King, Sarah Pearce, Emily Bartee, Kaitlin Mason; one great great grandchild, Kali Gilmore and one on the way.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Jarvis was preceded in death by a son, Carl M. Jarvis, Jr.; five brothers, Clair Smith, Harry Smith, David Gaster “Buddy” Smith, William Leslie Smith, Bernie Smith and five sisters, Nina Ellis, Holly Alligood, Mavis Tripp, Gay Smith, and Burna Brewer.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM Friday, July 7, 2023, at Christ Vision Church.
