Formerly of Loch Arbor





Lilyan Coniaris, beloved mother and grandmother, died October 16, 2014 at the age of 89 with her children by her side. Born October 24,1924, she was the daughter of Harry and Bertha Heleotis. She grew up in Keyport and Loch Arbor, and was one of eight children with her sisters Agnes, Sophie, Ann, Dorothy, Helen, and brothers Connie and Jim. Lilyan completed her medical technology training at Jersey City Medical Center and worked as a medical technologist in her early years.

Lilyan was married to Dr. John Coniaris, Chief of Cardiology at St Michaels Medical Center in Newark, who passed away in 1977. She raised her family in Maplewood where she lived until last year. Lilyan was a successful realtor with Burgdorff Realtors in Maplewood for many years, and worked at her son's medical practice until just three years ago. She was vibrant, courageous and a loving force. Lilyan was an incredibly proud mother and lived her life selflessly for her children.

Lilyan is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Helen and John Murphy of Oakhurst; and her three children and their spouses, Jeffrey and Tara Coniaris of Katonah, New York, Dr. Harry and Elena Coniaris of Colts Neck, and Pamela and John Lara of Hamilton, Massachusetts. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Justin, Chloe, Chelsea, Kendall, Alix, Nikos, H. John and Dimitri.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20 from 7 – 9 pm in Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Avenue, Asbury Park. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10 am in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue, Ocean Township. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery, 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union. Condolences may be expressed at
