LINDA CAROL BLACKWOOD
The daughter of the late Nolan Warren Neugent and Zela Aline (Pittman) Neugent, Linda was born on November 7, 1941 in Paris, Texas. Linda passed away on March 23, 2024 in a Edmond, Oklahoma hospital at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 16 days.
Linda grew up in Talco, Texas, and graduated from Talco High School where she was a member of the band. Linda then continued her education at East Texas State University, and received her Bachelor Degree. While attending East Texas State University she pledged Chi Omega sorority. East Texas State University is where she met her future husband. She and Jack Wayne Blackwood were married March 30, 1962 in McKinney, Texas. Jack preceded her in death on August 3, 2023. She and Jack settled down in Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1969. Linda continued her education and received her Master's through Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Linda worked at Ardmore High School as an English teacher for a career lasting 24 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement, Linda continued to assist students as a tutor through the Murray State College. She and Jack were members of the St. Mary Catholic Church for over 53 years. She was a devoted member, serving the parish council, women's group, cantor, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. In her leisure time, Linda enjoyed gardening, cooking and being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Beth Chavez and husband Jesus of Garland, Texas, Leslie Carol Bates, Jennifer Ann Blackwood and husband David McCall of Ardmore; 11 grandchildren, Carol Ann Bates Camacho, James Thomas Hazelton, Sarah Bates, Jessica Chavez Womack, Katherine Hazelton Brown, Mary Bates, John Bates, Elizabeth Chavez, Jack Finley, Jenna McCall and Julie McCall; 11 great grandchildren, Asher, Mychel, Elliot, Jackson, Penelope, Hazel, Jordan, Thomas, Freya, Heidi and Jordan; sister, Martha Neugent Stolfa and husband John; brother, Tom Neugent and wife Jackie Self Neugent. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Thomas Lee Blackwood, son-in-law, Stephen Bates.
Those serving as pallbearers are John Bates, Jack Finley, James Hazelton, Jordan Brown, Patrick Camacho, Cody Womack and Mathew Tanner; honorary bearers, David McCall, Jesus Chavez, Jim Hazelton, Steve Bates, Mark Finley and John Stolfa.
Funeral services for Linda Carol Blackwood will be: 10:00 am Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Kevin Ratterman officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Monday evening from 6-7 pm.
