Linda Broten Straley

Not sure if we had already sent well wishes to the family...it's been such a rough year with health in our own family...if not, we wanted to do so now...1/2 year later. Her name just came up in an email to neighbors in Winthrop. Our family has many fond memories of the hospitality shared by the Straley family in their warm and cozy cabin on the hill...just next to the crazy Hausers who would hole up in their tiny camper "next door" in those crazy cold winter days. My heart is heavy in a time warp and from this perspective I wish all in the Straley family my condolences for the loss of a wonderful warm spirit, one with wit and laughter. Linda had guts and the conviction to teach, for which she had my undying respect. Life is lethal every time, but if I had my druthers, I would hav had the opportunity to see her again. I am sorry for her loss.

So many of us here at SAAS remember Linda so fondly.

She was always smiling, willing to help at a moment's notice, wonderfully easy-going.

I am so sorry for the loss of this beautiful woman who shaped so many lives positively.

My thoughts with you, family of Linda and Hugh. So sorry to see the Sunday notice and the lovely photo. Linda brought sweet peas to my office from your garden to say thanks for a trip I planned. Our first meeting was the 1983 planning for Target Seattle's visit to the former Soviet Union and a few times we had walks together, in Russia. I know she was truly special to so many on so many levels and always a person who was kind and admirable.

Our older son, David was one of her students at SAAS. David has ADHD and was a challenge for all his teachers. But she bonded well with him and was a tremendous help in navigating his way. Today, David who will turn 40 in October, runs a successful academy in martial arts in Hayward, CA and has programs for at risk youth in 4 area schools. He still remembers her fondly as do we.

For all of the 40 years I knew her, Linda was one of the nicest, kindest, smartest and most enjoyable people I ever knew. She was always good.
