Not sure what to say?

It is with great sadness that we received news of the passing of Dr Lafford. We give thanks to God for the music ministry and leadership of Dr Lafford, particularly his tremendous contribution here at St. John's Cathedral, Hong Kong as the Cathedral Organist in 1935-1939.

May the hope and comfort of the risen Lord be upon Dr Lafford's family at this time. Rest eternal grant to Dr Lafford and let light perpetual shine upon him.

The Very Revd Matthias Der
Dean, St John's...

Lindsay was a man of energy beloved of many people and I was not surprised that he lived for over 100 years. I regret that I did not have the opportunity to meet him when he visited England in recent years. He and Anne were friends of my parents (Edgar and Ida Godwin, of Hereford, UK)from the 1940s.

Although I served under Dr. Lafford when he directed Hobart and William Smith Colleges' Shola Cantorum for only a short time, it was quite obvious to me that he was not only a talented musician, but a devoted and patient teacher and mentor. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him!

My sincere condolences to the family. During difficult times such as these, we are told to " draw close to God; and he will draw close to you" Js 4:8; RF

My sincere sympathy to the family for the loss of your dear loved one. May you find peace and comfort in Psalms 65:2. Again my deepest sympathy.

We send our great thanks to Lindsay for his contributions to our lives, the more richly lived on his account. He taught us far more than notes and tempi as servants of inspiring texts. He taught us to love music and the infinite Creator of the sensibilities that enable mere dots on paper to become lullabies, paeans of praise and, at the last in this sphere, requiems for a loved one now out of sight. We thus mourn a passing and rejoice that such talent shall never lack for respondents. ...

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to every member of Lindsay's family as they grieve his loss; I have many fond memories of my years at Hobart and as a member of the Schola Cantorum and the Motet Choir of St. John's Chapel, especially a wonderful spring break tour throughout Florida in 1960 and the performances of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana", Charles Wood's "St. Mark's Passion", Gordon Jacobs, "New Born King" and, from time to time on a Sunday morning, being one of the "ringers" in...

So many happy memories with Lindsay ... ! He even taught us to call a quarter note a "crochet" ! He and Anne will always be remembered by me and my family with much love and affection

Our sympathy to the family. Lindsay was such a wonderful man and able to live a very full and interesting life. It was our pleasure to have known him. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.
