Vollmer, Linus P. age 85, of Minneapolis, died at his home on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. Linus Phillip Vollmer was born September 27, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Louis P. Vollmer and Florence (Keenan) Vollmer DuVal. He graduated from Minneapolis High School. After high school, Linus attended the Minneapolis Art Institute in Minneapolis, MN. He then entered the Army serving in Hawaii. When Linus returned from the Army, he entered his world of art. Linus attended the Walker School and the St. Paul Gallery and School of Art. Linus retired in 1985 from WCCO Television, where he was a film editor for over 32 years. Linus looked at life through the eyes of an artist, which was evidenced by his paintings and the photographs he took. He loved gardening, literature, art, music and travel. Best of all, he loved long walks with his dog, "Buster." Linus is survived by his two brothers, Steve (Jackie) of Brainerd and his son Patrick; John (Mary) of Brainerd and his son Ryan; two sisters, Pam McCarty of Houston, TX and her sons Todd and Craig; Dena Bickhardt (Philip) of Morgan, MN and their children Pam and Adam. Linus was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Virgil and lifelong companion, Jack Roby. The family requests memorials to Hospice in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 16, 2009, 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour before at: Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 West 50th St. & Hwy 100

Not sure what to say?

Linus rescued me at a time in my life when I truly needed a friend. I am sad that I did not hear of his passing until today but I have him in my heart and my thoughts every day. He was a kind and loving man and all of us who knew him were indeed blessed.

My heartfelt condolences to all the family.
I had the pleasure of working with Linus and Jack as their careers in television were winding down and mine was just starting. Their stories of the old days and "real" live TV bring a smile to my face today. Linus was a truly special person who will be missed by all who had the good fortune of meeting him.

I worked with Linus and Jack for 12 years at WCCO and spent a lot of time together on the St. Croix with them. I will miss them.

Linus was very special to me. He was the long-time companion of my Uncle Jack. My mother and Jack's brother, Bill Roby, divorced when I was very young. I found Linus in my search for my father. I finally met Linus in person when I came to Minneapolis to meet my long-lost father. Since that time we have kept in touch by telephone and letters. I will greatly miss Linus. He has a very special place in my heart.

I knew Mr.Vollmer because of my son who he had met while my son was doing community service and mr.Vollmer was walking his dog.Mr.Vollmer then had my son do some yard work for him,I know that he was very nice when ever I spoke with him on the phone and he also was very thoughtful,I say this because on my sons birthday a number of years ago he bought him a cake and card, and he knew that he didn't have to.May he rest in peace.

Our sincere condolences to all the family from Linus' cousins; Therese Keenan Bergstrom; Angela Keenan Dorn; Joseph Keenan; and Patrick Keenan

I remember when the Walker Art Center hosted a show of his work. We were very proud. I visited the show with my sister Angie and our Grandma Katherine Keenan.

LINUS AND JACK WERE SPECIAL FRIENDS OF MINE AND MY FAMILY SINCE 1950. HE WILL NEVER PASS OUT OF MY LIFE. I SPEAK ABOUT HIM DAILY AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. HE MEANS SO MUCH TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM, FRIENDS AND FAMILY. I SEND OUR PRAYERS, CONDOLENCES,AND SYMPATHY TO ALL THOSE WHO LOVE HIM
