Morrell, Linwood A.
Linwood A. Morrell, 85, of Fairfield, CT and Scarborough, ME, died peacefully at home on February 2 surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born in Portland, ME on June 16, 1930 to Arch H. Morrell, MD and M. Estelle Moulton Morrell. He was a graduate of Bowdoin College and Columbia Law School.
Linwood appreciated both the intellectual and the practical and was proud of his deep New England roots. Reflecting family tradition, his interests ranged widely over things scientific, political, and philosophical. He enjoyed music, food, and the company of family and friends.
Throughout his life, Linwood was an intellectually vibrant attorney and scholar who typified the renaissance ideal. He demonstrated a love of nature, poetry, music and art, whether watching shore birds in Maine, admiring the paintings of Turner and Homer, or singing songs ranging from opera to his college alma mater.
He leaves a legacy that teaches the importance of critical thought and examination of ideas from every perspective as well as the value of laughter and wit. Family and friends loved his company; he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children Kristin E., John B., and Ann M. Morrell, and by his loving partner of forty years, Lauretta O'Connor. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Benjamin and Madeleine Keene, and Annika and Bryant Morrell, and nieces Bethany Williams and Holly Frank, and Lauretta's children, James O'Conner, Katherine Kline and Deirdre Coolidge.
