Lisa Elaine Carter, known professionally as Lisa Mason, passed away Tuesday night with her beloved fiance Adam Johnsey, her grieving parents Eleanor Henderson Carter and Robert Mills Carter, and faithful dog Hera Mason, at her side. During the day she was surrounded by good friends who came to wish her well on her final journey. A native of Huntsville, AL, Lisa graduated from Huntsville High and went on to Samford University, graduating with a major in Theatre and Communications. Over 4 years, she appeared in 14 plays at Samford and in community theatre, and wrote and directed productions. Lisa was a space nerd and avid science fiction fan, loved pets, Indian food, Egyptology, books, archaeology and her loyal fans. A 28-year career in Birmingham radio began with WYDE, and progressed through the years across the radio dial in a variety of genres including the classic "Mason and Dixon Show" and "Backtalk" with partner Richard Dixon, and spent 17 years at WBPT 106.9 with her award-winning "Lisa Mason in the Morning". Lisa was also on mid-days in Louisville, KY and afternoons in Richmond, VA. She was always ready with a quip, a quick retort, a funny story or antidote…or the dreaded "Nearly Impossible Trivia". If she did disaster coverage, she'd get a call from a truck driver with a load of tarps asking her where she wanted them delivered; if the weather was threatening, her listeners could count on the most up-to-date information. Toys for Tots would bring out listeners who had gone to Walmart and filled their carts with new merchandise to donate to the Eagle's campaign. The charity Boo Ball each Halloween was always a chance for a new costume! She could always regale listeners about the latest antics of her fabulous rescue dog Hera. She often commented that she had the best listeners in the world. And she was right. They are her best legacy. To honor Lisa, you may donate in her name to the ASPCA at the following link: https://secure.aspca.org/donate/memorial by checking the "mail a paper card" and including the following: Recipient is Lisa Mason Tribute, 2700 Corporate Drive, STE. 115, Birmingham, AL. 35242, or to any local pet rescue organization.

My beautiful friend has been on my mind lately-along with our mutual friend Sam, she made a difficult time in my professional life more than tolerable. Lisa, counting on you and Sam saving me a comfy seat and an ice cold beverage when it´s my turn. Go on now, have some fun in those clouds

I have listened to Lisa in the mornings for years. I'm able to listen at work, so was able to hear more than just the drive in! Always such a pleasure to listen to and wish I could have met her. I miss hearing her voice each morning. May God comfort the family during this difficult time

One of my favorite moments with Lisa
It was such an honor to be your friend and share the screen, hugs and so many laughs together! Heaven has gained a beautiful soul with a one of a kind personality and a voice that brought joy to everyone that heard it. Prayers for the Carter family and to all of Lisa's many extended friends and family as well.

I will always remember the day Lisa was wearing an amazing coat in Walgreen's a few years ago. I complimented her on the coat. She very proudly told me that it was her Aunts coat; that had recently passed away. She appears to be wearing the coat in one of her Facebook profile pictures. Also, I will always remember the day I told Lisa about the Star Wars lipstick, eyeshadow and mascara that we had on a display! She was mesmerized that a company would think of such an idea! She was a...
