In the 1940s, Liz befriended the young Midwestern reporter for whom I was named. Her influence radiated out in many directions and in many places, more than can be imagined.

I admired her example, her writing, her words. I like to re-read her books. I also enjoyed her reminiscences of President Johnson that I listened to on the computer.

What a great woman and so much fun. The time I spent campaigning with Liz when Ann Richards ran for State Treasurer was a highlight. Two of the most treasured and brainy women ever. And how wonderful that they were friends and both hailed from their beloved Texas and took no prisoners at home or anywhere else.
