The love of his life was his family and farming. After rental farming, they bought their farm SW of Clearfield, terracing & tiling the land. He and Alice lived there for 50 years. They then moved into Vintage Park Assisted Living in Lenox for five years. Like other grandparents, he was very proud of his grandkids and their lives and accomplishments. He was active in the NFO, the Clearfield Lions Club, ASCS and served two terms on the Clearfield School Board, serving as president for four years. Over the years, he enjoyed reading, visiting with friends, trapping, hunting, and trap shooting. After his retirement, he spent many hours working on his antique tractors and tinkering around his farm.
