lew was one of the most brilliant and decent people i have ever met, and i was so lucky i knew him at tech and berkeley. he was a great guide to austin when i visited for a job interview, and i am really sad he has passed away at such a young age. to see someone so quiet become such a wonderful professor was extraordinary, and i know ut-austin felt very fortunate to have someone so intellectually gifted on their faculty. i won the same "recent outstanding graduate award" at tech as a...
