Not sure what to say?

A true legend in Minnesota running. A fantastic man who gave to many and who accomplished so much. Lloyd was a member of the Ridge Runners out of Grantsburg, WI. Quite a group that was! He always felt that he was a wealthy man, and it was simply because you should be grateful for what you have. The many memories that we have will be with us forever.

August 20, 2010

I hadn't seen Uncle Lloyd for many years until October 1990 when he and were both entered in the Twin Cities Marathon 5K road race. I am so glad that my boyfriend (now husband) and I waited to watch the awards ceremony because lo and behold, Lloyd was called up to the podium (they addressed him as Lloyd "Forever" Young!) to pick up his award for his age group. I plan to run the Twin Cities 5K race again next year (2011), and I will run it in his honor.

Lloyd, I'll never forget the races where we were neck and neck the entire way. Me, an energetic young runner, and you, a world-class athlete with nothing but love to give and memorable stories to tell. You taught me that running can be a lifelong love affair, and for that I am thankful. I only hope to amount to the accomplished runner and upstanding citizen that you were. You will be dearly missed and Forever remembered.

Lloyd,

Your substantial legacy not only fills the record books, but also the hearts of your family, the young runners you've coached, and your distance running colleagues.

Lloyd: It won't be the same driving through Pine City to go to a road race or fishing and not stop by to visit you for some words of wisdom, race reports, or poetry. You've proven that growing old doesn't mean enjoying life less or giving up. I hope that we meet again, my light-hearted friend! We'll have some catching up to do.

A life filled with love, vitality and inspiration to everyone he touched. Lloyd is big in the hearts of many runners who knew him and knew of him. I was fortunate enough to have shared a few post-race laughs and reflections with Lloyd.
