Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors - Denton Obituary

Logan Rhea Shewmake, 81, of Justin, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013 at his residence. He was born September 23, 1932 in Mineral Wells to Wesley "Wade" Shewmake and Hazel Fannie Adams Shewmake. He married Georgie Lee Alcorn on August 18, 1951 in Mineral Wells. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Denton, Master Mason, Shriner, DeMolay Advisor, Rotary Club, Eastern Star, 2 Historical Associations, and Black Power Shooting Club. He had retired from the U.S. Navy, Franklin County Water District, and State of Tennessee Board of Education.

Visitation will be Monday, December 2, 2013 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Denton. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Burton officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro. Pallbearers will be Wesley Williams, Charles Wade Shewmake, Bryan Alcorn, Jerald Stinnett and Christopher Stinnett.

He is survived by is wife, Georgie Shewmake of Justin; son, Steven Brian Shewmake, Sr. and wife Paula of Justin; sisters, Yvonne Williams of Jacksboro, Ann King of Santa Fe, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Melanie Bloesser of Redfield, KS, Steven Shewmake, Jr. of Topeka, KS and Darah LeBlanc of Houma, LA, and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Kathryn Gleason and brothers, Wesley Adams Shewmake and Phillip Royce Shewmake.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the First Christian Church of Denton, 1203 N. Fulton, Denton, Texas 76201.

Very sorry for your loss. I was stationed with Logan in RVAH-6 in Albany, GA in the early 70's. We deployed together aboard the USS America to Vietnam in 72-73. RIP Shipmate. Fair Winds and Following Seas!
